Finding A Good (FREE) PDF Creator

Feb 8, 2008 2:19PM PST

Hi, I'm not sure a PDF editor is even what I need, but could someone tell me of a program that I can use to scan a blank invoice, proposal, etc. (any kind of form) onto my PC and be able to type information into the appropriate spaces without the legwork involved in guessing at line breaks, etc., and making a pattern in Word to try and scan onto the form itself? I don't exactly know what I need or if what I'm suggesting is even possible, especially from Free-ware, but I really need something of this nature. Something I can scan in and immediately type to. My OS is XP, and my Office Suite is XP Professional. I was thinking the Adobe stuff does this sort of thing, if you purchased the upgrade, I mean. But I wouldn't even be sure what to purchase if I was going to. Anyway, thanks!

Think OCR...

...or Optical Character Reconition . Your scanner may have came with such a program. For free OCR program, try a Google search. However, you may still have programs typing in the resulting version of your invoice. I would rather recreate the invoice in a spread sheet program, e.g. Excel ...

Well, about that...

I don't actually have a scanner yet. Well, I did, but it died, and I am looking into an HP C6180... but now I'm a little leery of it because of the bad/mixed reviews I'm seeing.

Anyway, I posted this now, in the event nothing could be found for free and I was going to need to purchase software too. Any all in ones that are tops, please let me know of. Since it's a new purchase, if there is one that definitely DOES come with what you speak of, please suggest it.

OCR, though, not PDF writable. Got it. And, thanks.
