Find your ISP

Oct 28, 2007 11:38AM PDT

Does anyone know of a site that can tell me what ISP I am using or some other way of finding out?

You should know

ISP stands for

Internet
Service
Provider

So if you pay a monthly fee to Comcast then they are your ISP

If your paying a monthly fee to AOL then that's your ISP.

If you're NOT paying a monthly fee, then you don't have an ISP and should look in to getting one.

....and have no documentation from the company. How could I find out from my computer? I am looking for a way for my computer to tell me where I am logging in from.

It sound to me that you're NOT paying for your internet

Sounds like you're stealing the connection.

For these reasons, this is why we suggest to people to secure their wireless networks using WPA Security. Do you know, the persons internet your stealing can also collect information on where you're going? Do you want the person to steal your credit card information? It can happen. Since your user profile says you live in the United States, why not go and contact Verizon for their cheap DSL for $14.99 for a year, then it goes up to $21.99. That's a good deal and cheap, too.

The persons internet you're stealing and also be in jeopardy. If you go somewhere and download music, then their ip address comes back and now their in trouble with the music industry.

Maybe you can remember this. People would go out and steal the cable connection from their neighbor. They found out it's illegal and the cable industry found the illegal hookups and disconnected them. The cable company now prosecutes the people for stealing cable.

Are you going to be the next person arrested/

All too easy.

Here I could do a traceroute from my PC to somewhere. The IP addresses of my PC, the router are not interesting. The next ones are.

Using those and NSLOOKUP I soon discover who they belong to.

This is NOT an offer to teach how to use TRACEROUTE, NSLOOKUP or google.
