File won't delete

I have a avi file that will not delete. When i try to delete it i get an error saying that its being used by another person or program. but there are no other progs using this file. I have tryed to delete it in safemode as admin and it still says same thing. tried using a prog call the incinerator and it don't work. I have ran 2 diff anti-virus and 3 diff spyware progs and have deleted all that could be affecting it. Something is slowing my pc down alot,eating up some ram and i think this is it. Thanks for any help! P4 2.5,640 ram,radeon7000 64meg,xp

1. The article [Q320081] explains why you may not be able to delete a file or a folder on an NTFS file system volume and how to address the different causes to resolve the issue.

2. The Windows Recovery Console can be used to obtain limited access to NTFS, FAT, and FAT32 volumes without starting Windows, [Q314058]. Please also read, "HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP (Q307654)."

3. Otherwise, please read Doug Knox's tip, "How do I delete an "undeletable" file?"

If Cursorcowboy's suggestions don't allow you to remove the file, then please download the free "Moveonboot" program from the link below. It should get the job done for you.
