File/Volume/HD Sharing on Network

Jan 31, 2011 12:24AM PST

We have a spare 'Mac Pro G5 tower running OS X 10.3.9', within which we have upgraded the HD's to 1TB each, we want to use this tower as a networked storage device, which we will back up every night. I have turned on File sharing on this 'storage' tower, but we can only see the towers 'public folder on 1 volume, how do i make the second HD visible so that we can store data to it?

I have tried logging into the client Mac as Admin, but still cannot see all directories on the 'storage' tower, how can i create another 'volume to mount' ? Is this indeed possible? I am sure i've done this previously, well, at least used this way of working!

http://www.macinstruct.com/node/181 - I WENT OFF THIS!

We are all working on Mac Pro Towers/iMacs running OS X 10.6

Your help would be much appreciated.

when you connect to the Storage tower,

use the name and password of the admin of the storage tower.

This should enable you to see all of the drives and their contents.

Not as an Admin

log in as same person who is already logged onto that machine.

For instance, if you log onto that computer and are able to read/write to everything, log on from a remote computer as yourself.

Being an Admin in OS X does not allow you to look at everything and everybody's stuff, unlike Windows.
