Resolved Question

file upload to server

Sep 2, 2014 11:56AM PDT

Hi

I've been tasked with transferring data to one of our servers at work. I've been allocated 390G to complete the task. I've already used 350G and should have more than enough space to finish uploading the files. However, when attempting to transfer a 3G folder, I'm told that I don't have enough space to complete the transfer. I currently have 40G of free space left. Can anyone give a possible explanation for this error?

Also, I am searching for possible solutions to speed up the process. It has taken 2 to 3 hours to upload 2G files. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you for your help!

Sure. A few links for your research.

Since slack space varies as we copy from one file system to another, total disk space can vary. Copying a single 4GB would take 4GB + a tiny bit for slack. However 1,000 files that take up 4GB could use more than 4GB if the file system slack space differed from host to target.

Pretty well discussed so unless you know your source and target file systems, it would seem mysterious as to why.
