File Type Help

Jul 11, 2007 5:02PM PDT

Under my Aol Instant Messenger (AIM) folder in my program files folder there was a file that I wanted to edit. It was a .odl file, Aim.odl.

I right clicked, and went to Open With. I had used Notepad to open the ODL file. I opened the file, edited what I needed, except now I have a problem. It uses notepad to open ODL files all the time. How do I change this back to being a file type without an application to load it.

Do you understand what I'm saying?

Thanks for the help in advance.

You don't want it to open

You want to have it ask you which program to open the ODL file with?

Click on start

click on settings

click on control panel

click on folder options

click on file types

look for ODL

then delete it.

Hope this helps.

How you got in trouble

When you were at that "Open with" window, you forgot to UNcheck the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

Not doing so tells Windows that this is the program you want to use in the future, as well.
