Question

File History recovery...

Oct 20, 2013 2:56AM PDT

Hi,
I take a File History snapshot every night. I have had to do a restore of my c: drive and need to apply my File History for four days. Does anyone know how to do this because I have never done it before.
I would appreciate any advice that anyone would be able to give me.

B.

File history isn't going to recover files

What you need is backups to an external hard drive. If you don't have that, you're out of luck. Sorry.

wpgwpg.

Maybe we are thinking of different things. Could you please explain to me what file history is to you? And, what it is used for?

Thanks,
B.

Here is what file history ...

is and does - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/how-use-file-history

You, however, mentioned that you restored your PC and that overwrites the drive or partition with the drive image so your files AND their history will be gone unless you backed them up on another drive or other media such as a flash drive or DVD or internet or network drive.

On the other hand if you set up one of those other drives for your file history as this next link shows then you can recover them as the link to restoring them on this same page shows:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/set-drive-file-history

Hope this helps answer your questions.
