Question

File Explorer won't load/Windows Update won't load

Sep 12, 2015 8:07PM PDT

I've had Windows 10 for a couple weeks now, my laptop is running pretty slow (was bad before the update, I figured because it was mostly full but didn't seem to get much better after freeing up some space) and as of a few days ago File Explorer stopped loading most of my folders. Whenever I tried and go into one, e.g. Click on "Documents" it just says 'working on it' and endlessly loads. Thought an update might help but Windows Update won't work either, I just get the endless loading dots. Any tips how to fix this?

Btw I'm using a HP Pavilion DM4 Notebook (Beats Edition)

Create a new user account and then logout of your current account and into the new account. What happens?

Kinda fixed but not...

The new user account I created wouldn't sign in, but then I booted into safe mode, everything was working fine in my normal account and on restart back into normal everything was working again albeit with a new notification that "Windows Security Center" has stopped, and I'm reluctant to turn it back on now that everything is working. Although after 3 consecutive Windows updates (the Office one failing each time) my Window's Updater has now gone back to endlessly loading...

That's a sign of malware or a damaged OS.

However there are instances where Office fails to update when the Office was that preloaded version. I've seen that and the fix is to uninstall Office, then let Windows Update at it again.
