file corrupt

I have win xp, e machine 420, and I have some corrupt files, what are they?and what is a computer vender and how do I get rid of these corrupt files?, in a idiot's guide to it,
thank u for your time I hope you can help me.

Going to need more input.

File type, error message, files you made or system files
how where they found, as a start.

corrupt files can mean anything.

If these are system files (meaning XP system files) do a System File Check:

Start|Run|Type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes and a space after sfc

This procedure will replace any missing or corrupt XP system files. Be prepared to take a few minutes and have your XP CD handy when prompted for it. It will check the computer system files against the XP disk.
