May 20, 2014 2:49PM PDT

a few years ago, i bought a used alienware m17x laptop that supposedly has some pretty nice hardware. the laptop currently has a list of problems including the fact that it doesnt power on. I am trying to sell the laptop for parts and am wondering how i can extract the info containing this information. can you look this up through a number on the back?

If you mean the hard drive, just pull it out and don't sell it. You can get enclosures fairly cheaply for 2.5" laptop drives which can access by USB on any other computer.

I think the OP is referring to the system specs.

Answer
Find service tag#

If your laptop was build by Alienware, then if at the time was owned by Dell, locate thr service tag#. That is fouind somewhere probably on the bottom of laptop and using that will provide the info you requested. Another poster offered the same lead, follow that link and enter your service tag# correctly.

However, if the Alien ware was build before dell brought out Alienware PC, then you have to find the info piece-meal. But Alienware does have a support website check also.
