Fiber to the Home

Feb 5, 2009 10:47AM PST

I'm very curious as to when , if at all, america's dark fiber will be put to good use! I know that Verizon offers it's FTTH FiOS service but it's still only 50mbps (at least what i saw advertised). On the web i've stumbled upon some older articles about japan's KDDI offering 1gbps to the home! Am i wrong for wanting this luscious bandwidth as well? More importantly, does anyone know of any american companies' plan to eventually provide this sort of BW to the avg household? I've not been able to find any clues to this myself. Sad
