Few questions about the Zen micro ?

Jan 21, 2005 7:16AM PST

I am thinking seriously about buying a Zen Micro player from creative but as i did know from other people that one of its minuses is that it does not have a dedicated volume controller on it, i wanna ask: can i still get volume low and high thru a certain brand of ear buds that have a dedicatd wheel for its wire ???

1 more question plz - ok ?!!:
After reading the remarks on the firmware upgrade for that player and which makes it a "PlaysForSure/MTP" enabled device, Creative labs made a remark on this on this page: http://www.nomadworld.com/downloads/firmware/wma-getfw.asp?nProdID=556&sProd=Creative+Zen+Micro saying that:
PlaysForSure/MTP-enabled devices may reduce the maximum number of media files because of additional memory requirements.

Does that mean the 5GB will not become so after upgrading ? and how much i will really get ? 4 GB ?!! or how much ? and is it possible 2 flash with an old firmware if the new firmware didn't satisfy me ?

Thanks in advance and sorry 4 the too many questions but i just wanna understand the player defects/minuses b4 i burn my hard earned money.

Zen Micro

If you own a pair of headphones that have an inline volume control then you can change the volume through them. You can also access the volume control from anywhere, there's just no specific volume button (no plus minus buttons but if you press "Options" on any menu you can access the volume from there. To answere your second question, I upgraded to the v2 firmware and I think I had about 4600 MB left after the upgrade. However I downgraded the firmware (yes you can do that) to the version 1.01.03 firmware as the MTP firmware would randomly freeze WMP (it would get to 100% transfer then freeze). The v1 firmware is much better as it works with MediaSource (the Creative software) and Zen Micro Media Explorer (the syncing program) without having to upgrade any of them.

I had a Rio Forge that died after two days and this player beats it hands down. If you're just needing the extra "go for it", well......GO FOR IT!!! I own this player and it is excellent. Sound quality, portability, size, everything. Hope this helps.

I just purchased my Zen Micro and received it on 1/25/05. I love it. Even though it doesn't have a "dedicated volume control" you can adjust the volume using the scroll button anytime you are listening to music.

As for the firmware upgrade, I chose not to do it because I don't care if I need a driver. It might come in handy if I was downloading something off someone else's PC who didn't have the Creative software and drivers on their pc.

This player is a great size. I am still loading songs. I've loaded about 170 so far of 128kb wma files and it looks like I have used about 14% of the space. I should be able to get about 1200 songs of this file type.

I like the size, weight and price.
