ferrite rings

by freq27 / January 26, 2008 7:22 PM PST

Hi when I received my MOBO, I alsohad in the pack a ferrite ring with a 15mm centre hole, I know that ferrite rings are used as when I did my RAE that they are used to stop sporadic QRM and freq interference,by coiling coaxial thro hole. but I cannot see where the ferrite ring is fitted within a pc.There doesnt seem to be any need but I will be advised by the forum experts.

are used to prevent rf interference to nearby radio/tv's on older motherboards, not usually a problem on newer boards.
Usual method is to get the leads coming from front panel to mobo and fold in center, then slip ring over folded end far enough in so it doesn't fall off.
I had one supplied with an AOpen case about 7 years ago.
