FENCES DESKTOP SOFTWARE

Oct 4, 2009 1:57AM PDT

Installed this one yesterday that you recommended and I love it, but what are these other programs in there that are trying to call home? STARDOCK and IMPLUSE, are these spyware programs included in the download???? Can I uninstall them without losing FENCES?????

It seems Fences Desktop Software is developed by Stardock.com, http://www.stardock.com/

Did you check the install process? Often 'extras' are offered but the user can de-select them during the install.

Looking at their site and clicking the "Fences" link, I see the minimum System Requirments are listed as;

System Requirements
● Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7
● On Vista and Windows 7, both 32bit
and 64bit versions are supported.
● Impulse must be installed in order to
download and update software.

Note the entry about Impulse.

Stardock.com has it's own support forums, http://forums.stardock.com/ so you may be able to find out more there.

Thanks Mark, I went to the site and checked it out, I also wrote them asking why they make us install the other stuff and if it is spyware. I know I uninstalled all that stuff it put in my computer and removed all the stuff it left behind and FENCES is still working fine.

Yes I agree with you

It annoys me intensely when these software companies and/or developers bundle unwanted extras into their install procedure.

I can understand why they do it I suppose. If the software is free, they are just attempting to make some money, so I don't really blame them. But I still dislike it, and so I now watch install processes like a hawk, and de-select everything I can if I get that option and if I don't want it.

Glad to see you managed to uninstall what you didn't want, and Fences still works. That's a bonus! Happy

yes but.........

you have the right to feel anyway you want obviously, BUT..... I dont think its unreasonable to have to pay a price for this software even if that price is non-monetary. Lets face it, this isnt just a kinda cool piece of code. This software is really great! There is a picture of me under "clutter" in the dictionary AND the thesaurus and this software is amazingly beneficial to me. Especially on my big ole 28" lcd monitor (very helpful for this lappy too but trying to find some stuff on my desktop monitor was getting out of hand). sure...you TRY to clean up here and there and file stuff away in the right spots but that only lasts so long - no different than my house or closet etc. and for them to provide a piece of software that really helps control that and makes me more productive..nothing short of amazing!! so, if they make a deposit or two on my desktop then so be it, I can live with them trying to keep their name in plain view. I know you said you can understand but you said you were still mad etc. I think they did nothing wrong. so there. : )
