Question

Fb hacked? Wifi and laptop compromised?

May 2, 2018 1:12PM PDT

Hello,

I could really use your help. I think my FB has been hacked.. I opened it and I was logged out which was unusual since I never am and I went to Settings and saw I was logged in from two different locations(both windows PC). I only use FB on one laptop, nowhere else. I think it said the other location had been logged in two hours before I was active. It said another city, but FB does that sometimes. I changed the pass and checked again and saw the same thing, this time a different IP address I think than the first login that wasn't me.(so, 2 PCs again)

I logged out of it and changed my pass and email pass later on.

What worries me is how they hacked my password.. It wasn't easy and I don;t think I had a security question and I live in the Balkans so I don;t think people here can just hack a password like that, but they can do other stuff. (I assume)
I had recently given my next-door neighbors my wi-fi pass (IDIOT) and I changed it a week later. My router pass and username was default..
My Q is: What can someone do with ones wifi pass? Can they access my mic/camera? That worries me most.. Is there anyway I could check this to put me at ease? I read about process explorer and seeing which programs or w/e had access to my mic/cam. Is this possible? Is there another way? How can I make sure?
I recently lost a loved one and I;ve experienced a lot of evil and I know there are people who really hate me out there.. twisted people..

Last Q: After having changed wifi and router passwords, did I 'kick out' whoever might have been snooping? Or was that not enough?

Thank you!

If I undersand, Griff basically tells you how to check for malware?
Is it the same as checking for a RAT?

Sorry, I;m not very tech savvy. Happy

Grif's set of scanners is very good.

Should find anything on your system. If you find nothing, changing WiFi and router passwords should fix it. Don't give folk your details!

"My Q is: What can someone do with ones wifi pass? Can they access my mic/camera?"

Almost never. The basic security settings do not allow a basic W8.1 setup to be accessed that easily. Now if you installed some RAT (remote access terminal) or such then all bets are off.

As to mic and camera and your privacy, it's a bit easy to cover the camera. Why not do that now? A simple slider can be made from paper. Here's how.

Why folk don't do this is a mystery.

As to what I can do with your wifi password, it depends on so many other factors. That alone is not enough to get at your files, webcam and mic. But you will find articles ready to tell you it is always done to get you to spend your money on some security app or thing.

-> As to logged out of FB. To me this is a non-event that is not indicative of anything. A windows update could cause that.

Reply: RAT and Proces Explorer
May 2, 2018 2:38PM PDT

Thank you for the quick reply. Happy

How can I check for a RAT?

No, it isn't, but two logins from two different PCs is?

I do cover my cam, have for a while(sticky note, now two band aids(hopefully that is enough since my camera seems to be disconnected or sth, dunno-when I open Youcam it says ''no webcam detected''.), but sometimes I take it off and maybe forget to put on again.

I would really like to check if there is a way to see if my mic has been used.. Something about Process Explorer: https://superuser.com/questions/760288/how-can-i-find-out-which-processes-on-my-computer-are-accessing-the-microphone
I managed to do it and I get some results I can;t interpret.
I did the following:
Right click your Volume icon on the lower right hand on the task bar.
Click 'Recording Devices'
Right click your current / Default Device and go to 'Properties'.
Under where it says Controller Information click 'Properties' and under the 'Details' tab when it pops up, under Property, go to Physical Device Object Name.
Right-click and copy the Device path. After this you can find it in Process Explorer or wherever necessary.

And I got this: https://sec25.imgbb.com/

Thanks again Happy

Are very thorough but I have had folk wig out over cookies. Those are not infections or anything I ever consider worry about.

I'll look at your links and report back only if I see anything alarming.

That imgbb link looks dead.

Try Imgur.com if you can't get imgbb to work.

To me it looks like the usual Realtek control.

Surrounded by technologies our digital kingdom can be easily exploited. First things first check your security options, enable two factor authentication, reset router settings and choose strong secure passwords. .
