faxing

by rtomasov / October 1, 2009 1:55 AM PDT

Hi,
Each time I want to fax a document I get the same result: no fax goes out; the fax list shows the job was stopped and put on hold till a later time. After resuming, the fax still does not go through.

The settings in Print and Fax are correct: all jobs are to be sent using internal modem.

The document I need to fax shows in the print dialog window that it will use the internal modem, it will not to wait for dialing tone, will use tone dialing, with the sound on. After starting the job, sound comes on and I can hear the modem dialing, the fax status in the menu bar shows "connecting" for some time, then there is no more sound, and the job stops.

I decided to cut the problem short and got an Apple external USB modem which after plugging it in was recognized by the system.
I set it up in system prefs and tried to fax a document the same way as before; the result was practically the same as with the internal modem: The settings in Print and Fax are correct: all jobs are to be sent using internal modem. The document I need to fax shows in the print dialog window that it will use the internal modem, it will not to wait for dialing tone, will use tone dialing, with the sound on.
After starting the job, sound comes on and I can hear the modem dialing, the fax status in the menu bar now shows "dialing" for a long time, then there is no more sound, and the job stops.

I wonder whether I should now buy a whole new iMac Sad

The operating system has been reinstalled and everything else works just fine.

What is going on here? Has someone a clue about it and how to overcome the glitch?

Thank you all,

iMac G5 2GHz PPC Mac OS X (10.4.11)
