FAX FROM XP WITH BROADBAND

Aug 16, 2005 5:10AM PDT

I've just gone over to broadband from 56K dialup and discover I can no longer send faxes from my computer.Is it possible to configure the XP fax utility with a broadband modem?

It's a ISDN - Speed Touch USB ADSL PPP
and I'm using XP Home Edition

Thanks in advance

Ummmm, not really. . .

ISDN is a fully digital signal, 2 B-channels at 64 Kb/s, not at all like ADSL.

He needs dial tone to FAX. Some ISDN modems have a phone port from one of the B-channels. This can be used if he has set up this type of connection. He needs to contact his provider and set up voice on the ISDN channel. Otherwise he needs a separate phone line to FAX.

I might bet it's not ISDN.

The common " Speed Touch USB ADSL PPP " is usually plain old DSL.

He says ISDN, but then says ADSL. I didn't see the ADSL.

Actually, guys

I'm not sure what he wants. Does he want to run his fax machine also (I am using mine on a DSL system) or is he asking for the program to send and receive faxes from XP,
using his printer.

what MO wanted
Aug 17, 2005 10:24AM PDT

I wanted to be able to send faxes from my computer (I try to avoid using any more paper than is strictly necessary) and was puzzled that I no longer could once the broadband connection had been set up.

It didn't help that when I called customer care at my provider they told me I would no longer be able to do so when actually all I had to do, as Rob said, was plug the old modem cable from my computer into one of the filters they'd sent me.
