Fax application or fax machine?

I am starting a small business and looking for feedback on which to purchase. Does anyone know of a good fax application to install on my computer or perhaps a good reason I should purchase a fax machine instead?

How dependent are you on fax?

It's an archaic technology but some still cling to it. You should have discovered by now that PC FAX is not only unreliable but consumes a few hundred Watts just sitting there. The energy costs usually outstrip the paper and ink costs for low use.
