I have found that if I do File, Send to, Recipient Using a Fax Modem and go through that Wizard inside of Word 2003, I get a valid fax ever time.
So what is it about a regular Ctrl P that is causing me this problem?
I can't seem to find anyone else with this problem.
When I'm in Word 2003 and press Ctrl P, selecting fax (Windows Fax and Scan), I'm placed into the popup "New Fax" window for Fax and Scan.
The TIF file has 0 bytes the FIRST time around. If I hit escape and Ctrl P again, I magically have a TIF file with a valid size and can send that particular fax.
It's also interesting that the first time I open Word and try to fax, the FIRST fax of the day will have a valid TIF file size. Everything after that will give me a 0 byter on the first Ctrl P, then a valid TIF on the second attempt.
I'm using Windows 7 Professional.
