fat 32 partition

Nov 28, 2004 4:57PM PST

Last month I was working with Windows ME using the fat 32 partition. My son put XP with there standard partion on my computer. I have a second hard drive which is also in the fat 32 format, and XP could not see it because of the partition change. I finally got back to the ME edition but it is still not seeing the second hard drive. I am assuming the computer is still partitioned with the XP partition. Can anyone tell me how I can change the partition (now on ME) back to the fat 32? This is a Gateway 1000 with the ME operating system.

Xp can use both the fat32 and NTFS formats. The default format over 32gb is NTFS.
I used to love ME and it took me a long time to change to xp even after I had a XP disk. What pushed me to XP was the problem that ME has with dumping memory. I got tired of restarting all the time.
If I were you I would upgrade to XP and then it will read all your partitions. You can then save anything to another partition. Put the Xp disk back in and before the install it will show all your partitions and you can delete, make new or what ever you want to do. Just follow the steps. Xp is extremely easy. If you insist on using ME then write me via my profile and I can give you an easier alternative to reading and following all that manual junk posted by BOb. Bob knows what he is talking about but, Can't always give you the easier alternatives because he is a Moderator. If you have broadband I can give you an easier way. Skip

If anyone has an easier solution, PLEASE POST IT.

I get to learn a new trick then.

As I said I would only discuss in an e-mail. There are forum rules. You were the first to remind me of the policies.

Why is that advice only available there?

I can't imagine any legitimate fix that we can't discuss here.

If you read my post again, I was not against Bob's solution of using the fix/mbr in dos. If it was me I wouldn't want to take the time to read all those other threads he posted. I just gave the guy my opinion why he should upgrade to Xp and the advantages he would recieve. I was also going to offer privately to give him a partition utility so, he could see what his partitions actually looked like. It would also give him other options of deleting and making other partitions or changing formats easily. So you see I wasn't arguing Bob's fix. I was just offering other alternatives. Not all solutions are legit to people who work in the business. I do not want to offend people who work in the business. So I would take matters as these to private places. You guys no what I'm talking about and now I have offended you, I'm sure. If I have I'm sorry. Thats not my intention. If you have a problem with me please look at my profile and choose one of my chat names preferibly yahoo's and send me a private e-mail so we can discuss this matter privately. I respect you both and will listen to what you have to say. Skip

Email and forums

The whole purpose of the forums is to help everybody who might have a similar problem, which is why the solutions are posted publicly. If you want to 'keep an eye' on a particular thread, you can subscribe to it with the link provided so that you get an email letting you know the thread has a new posting to it.

Personal profile emails are to send a private message to someone who has their email addy listed in the profile.....its purpose is not to have a forum issue fixed via email because otherwise the rest of us lose the benefit of seeing and possibly using the solution.

I don't understand how you came to the conclusion that replies with solutions couldn't be posted publicly. That thinking defeats the purpose of the forum as it puts everyone else at a disadvantage since we would never know the solution or if the problem ever even got resolved.

You haven't offended us....I just wasn't sure about why you felt private emails were to be used for replies. I misunderstood......no problem.
