Fastest way to convert videos for Roku.

I've found the fastest way to convert videos for Roku USB . 10 minutes or less. Download xmedia recode. Click open file, click the file you want to recode. On format tab select profile for Apple then select Apple TV 1 (h.264), leave file extension m4v for now. On output stream select Video and Audio, check Audio/Video sync. On Video tab set Mode to Copy. Next go to Audio tab set Volume Correction to Volume normalization. Leave the rest alone. Select Channel Mapping on left set Mode to convert. Leave the rest alone. Click the GREEN plus sign at the top of program. Select target path of your usb stick, rename if you want but make sure you change the extension to .mp4 Click save - OK. At the top click Encode. It will analyse the recode the file.

Any hope of getting that app updated?

In reply to: Forgot to mention Xmedia recode is FREE

Here's the list of limitations I found on Wikipedia. As such I think I'll stick with my old apps.

" Bitrate Calculator does not allow to choose the number of channels for audio tracks (defaults to Stereo)
System-wide brightness, contrast and color adjustments for videos (from Nvidia or ATI Control Panel) will be detected by XMedia Recode during the Preview and those adjustments will be hardcoded into the output file.
Lack of documentation for codec options (hover tooltips)
All videos default the framerate to "Keep Original", however this can sometimes create corrupt or broken videos. The user is therefore required to choose the desired framerate every time to prevent the mentioned problem from occurring.
Many settings for Profiles are locked down (e.g. File Extension, Video codecs, Audio Codecs) and are therefore at the discretion of the XMedia Recode developer.
Does not allow to permanently modify or amend existing Profiles from the XMedia Recode GUI. Instead, they must be modified via a text editor.
Max supported framerate is 60 and custom framerates are unsupported.
Lack of video rotation support.
The crop and resize options are sometimes problematic and do not work as intended.
No 64-bit version of Xmedia Recode available
audio normalization - Program crashes when audio output codec selected as AAC"

From Roku point of view it works fine. That's the discussion here.

32 bit vs 64 bit

In reply to: Reply to Any hope

32 bit software will run on 64 bit platform but not vice versa

The other items are hair raising.

While the author can dismiss the 32 to 64 bit item, the crashes and problematic resize look like an app that is still in Beta testing.
