I have the luxury of the office supplying gear so I went through a few routers to see if it mattered. Yes there are tons of reviews but I'll not link to any and just share.
I changed out the Archer C7 for a C9 and the dual core delivered a lot more (well if you say 10% is a lot) overall throughput.
So my nod is to any decent DUAL CORE fancy AC router. Be sure to update the router firmware and do a factory reset on said router to give it a good clean start. Here I use a Google DNS since it beat out my ISP's DNS (I ran NAMEBENCH to test.)
I have xfinity Internet with speeds up to 25mbps. I pay $10 a month to rent a router, which is an n900 series. Connected to this, via cat7, I have a PS4, Amazon fire box. Connected wirelessly I have my phone, a smart tv, a desktop computer, and a few kindle fires. I want to ditch the $10 charge on the router and buy one. Can I expect to see a noticable difference in my speed If I upgrade to a fancy ac router claiming speeds of up to 1700 mbps or am I stuck regardless based on my internet plan of 25mbps? Thanks!
