1. I use a Google DNS. Your choice but many ISP DNS are just slow. If you are picky, you can test with (google it) NAMEBENCH.
2. I often find overreaching security suites. I use a bare browser with 2 addons.
a. Web Of Trust.
b. Ublock Origin.
3. After I've checked the PC for overreaching AV suites I reset the browsers, add my 2 addons and re-test.
4. You might be on WiFi. NEVER push the distance. Keep in line of sight and never let clients whine about how the router must be in the basement. Don't take on that job. Let another company do that and take the bad reviews on Yelp.
My internet is going odd on me lately. I have a highspeed provider and if I check my wifi connection goes at 300 Mbps (well it should, it tends to fluctuate but bigtime). Anyway since I couple of days now I have the situation that the wifi if at full speed but my browsing with Chrome, FF or Edge just goes down to turtle speed. Taking forever to load a page, crashing on a page and then picking up speed again.
My best guess is that a Windows (10) update screwed me over.
I've tried pinging my gateway and of the 4 pings sometimes only 1 or 2 pass, sometimes all for pas at decent speeds.
I've upgraded the drivers on my linksys connector, tried different settings, tried flushing my dns settings etc but nothing seems to stably fix my problem...
