General discussion

Fast time, slow time; the debate continues here in Indiana,...

...one of only three states (Arizona and Alaska are the others) to warrant their own time entries in the Windows Control Panel:

Mitch Daniels wants Indiana to adopt daylight saving time. The Republican candidate for governor took a position on that controversial issue Monday.

Daniels sees DST as an economic development issue. It was just one of several planks in an economic development plan released by Daniels Monday.

Benjamin Carroll was among the pages in the Indiana House of Representatives today. Because he came from Evansville, which is now on central time, he and his mother, Nancy Carroll, made the trip last night. ?Three hours is still a long trip but that extra hour added on with the time change often costs you a hotel in the evening,? she said.

Mitch Daniels is trying to address just those kinds of problems with his proposal that Indiana adopt central time and central daylight time. Daniels says it makes more sense to be aligned with Chicago than New York City and thinks jobs would come here as a result.

It's amazing that we're still having this discussion here. Our farm interests have to date successfully resisted the change to DST ("fast time" they call it), claiming that it will hamper their operations. meanwhile, it doesn't get dark until after 9 at the beginning of summer, and it gets dark at about 4 at the beginning of winter in the 79 of 92 counties that are on the Control Panel's Indiana (East) time ("slow time"). With NW and SW Indiana on DST (Central Time), and some counties in E and SE Indiana on DST (Eastern Time), no wonder people are confused!

I think that if we don't change to DST (Eastern, Central, I care not a whit which), then the state legislature should change the state song from Back Home Again in Indiana to Does Anyone Really Know What Time It Is? - that is, if the folks in (and of) Chicago will let us...

Many of us here in St. Pete are trying to get a resolution on the ballot to stop the silly game of Daylight Savings Time. I rarely talk to anyone that likes it. When I do, the excuse is usually that they enjoy the extra hour once a year. But what about the day you lose the hour??? LOL

If we can get this on the ballot, I am confident that Florida will join the list of places that no longer plays with time twice per year...

This is a technical and mathematical thing...

and not my strong. But isn't there some kind of energy saving by the time adjustment?

Actually you are on the correct time.It is the rest of us who are not. And I think of it as one last hold on for State's Rights.
