Fast non-SLR digital camera

Maybe this is a silly question but quite important to me:
"What is the best non-SLR digital camera with very short shutter lag for the 1st shot after switched on"?
So many times I lost very interesting moments with my kid and dog due to delay for the 1st shot and the next ones. I really do not care if this is full size or compact camera. I am looking just for fast acting one.
Currently I own Canon Power Shot A95 and Canon S5. I am not too impressed with them.
I've heard many positive things about Lumix cameras (FZ40, FZ100) but I am open for any suggestions.

Faster, newer, more powerful camera

I've just come from CES 2011. Sony will be introducing a new, compact camera. It has 16.2 megapixel still camera. Best yet, it has FULL 1080p, yes, "p". First compact camera to do so. It has an incredible 28mbps recording speed for clear, crisp detail in playback.
