Centrino is simply a marketing tool

Don't be fooled into thinking you have to get a centrino certified notebook to get good wireless technology. Centrino simply means that Intel products are used in three different areas of the laptop. One, Intel wireless cards are used. Two, Intel Pentium M processors are used, and three Intel GPU's(Graphics processing Units) are used. Now, it is true that as of this moment you will get the best battery life with a Centrino laptop. The next best option in terms of battery life is the new AMD Turion models. These chips are 64 bit but probably do get a little less battery life than the Centrino models but still pretty good. Also, the Intel Graphics are frankly awful. If you want to do any kind of gaming more than solitaire you will not be able to do it. So, I would definitely recommend the HP ZV6000 or its twin the Compaq R4000. You can usually find the R4000 for a little cheaper. However, shop around at stores like Office Depot or Costco and you can often find the ZV6000 for great deals. I know Office Depot often runs sales with the laptops starting at $699.00 and you can upgrade with all upgrades at 50% off versus customizing on HP's website. This can add up to big savings. For example, I ordered a pretty an HP zv6000 with the Athlon 64 3500+ processor with the 100GB hard drive and all the extras. My laptop came out to about $1350.00 on HP's website but I found out later that I could have gotten the same system at Office Depot for around $1000.00. So, it does pay to shop around. Anyway, I am very happy with my lappy and would recommend it. Just be careful if you want extreme gaming. The HP zv6000 is not designed to handle extreme gaming but pretty well handles most games that are 1 year old or older as well as the newer titles that are less graphically demanding. I'm still hoping the PCExpress card on the zv6000 will allow for future upgrades to the video graphics.

you are so misinformed....

1. not always....if its customizable but the intel ones work just fine

2. pentium m processors are great processors. the best since intel came out with pentium III.

3. intel gpu are shipped standard but for example the hp dv4000, u can customize it to have an x700 video card

oh ya i would suggest returning ur zv6000 as there is no way for u to upgrade your graphics card if u got it with integrated ati or intel graphics.

and laptops are generally not built for gaming anyways.

imo, i would suggest waiting for the next generation centrino which supports 64-bit. or grabbing an amd athlon 64 laptop instead. i would rather get an amd athlon then use the turion. but its ur choice as costs are similar.

inspiron 9300

it is a solid desktop replacement that is under 1400 dollars(999 starting price), good graphics, good components and good battery life with 9 cell battery. I have had a pretty good experience with dell.
