Question

Fan won't stop running once it starts until I sleep my lapto

Feb 22, 2015 12:56PM PST

Hey guys,

I noticed recently that my laptop's fans won't stop spinning loudly once they start (usually during gaming). Sleeping the laptop will stop the fan (even if only for a second.) My temps are 65-75 during gaming but drop immediately after I stop an idle of 45-65. When this problem occurs cpu usage seems normal (core 0 ~ 10%)

I have also noticed that hot air only seems to come from roughly one side of the single set of vents at the back of the laptop.

I haven't dusted since I bought it (a year?), although I did vacuum the vents. Grin

Any help or advice on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

All my laptops spin the fans until power off.

Why not dust (canned air) now?

Thanks for the reply! I don't have any canned air with me at the moment. Hopefully in the weekend I can get my hands on some.

My laptops continue spinning the fan very loudly, which is probably different from just spinning under normal operation.

I think I'm on a seasonal schedule. That's 4 or more times a year with the canned air. That way it doesn't build up over time as badly.

Cleaning is required on a regular basis

That said, while a good vacuum or blowing out will work, sometimes that just moves dust clods around. After a 1yr. you may have had a dust clod jammed even after some cleaning/blowing out. DIRECT blowing is required a visual inspection follows, clean will be seen clean. Dust will also adhere to the fan blades reducing the effectiness, so be aware a simple blowing out gets "loose dust". I get the feeling you have a clogged air passage, I use a compressor to better blow out when in thought or difficult access at times. good luck

Thanks for the tips! What do you think about the vents issue? Just to elaborate- may laptop has one of these http://imgur.com/MKZ24vC at the back, and hot is is only coming out of the right half.

Answer
I know once I had that problem

with a HP laptop and I called support and they said that problem was due to a recent BIOS update and they had me restore back to the previous. So I would call the brand support and they may have had the problem before in your model.
