Question

Fake Blue Screen of Death

Sep 5, 2015 3:34PM PDT

I recently ran into a problem with a bit of malware. It is a fake blue screen of death. When I first boot up into my Win 7 it goes through all kinds of weird things. I enter my password and normally the Dell screen comes up and asks me to please wait. It loads the other programs in the background and suddenly there I am. But now before any of that can happen, I get this stupid blue screen that looks like a blue screen of death except he has a 1-888 phone number on it telling me to call them for help. Has anyone else experienced this? I am sure there is a thread in this forum somewhere that talks about this. It gives you a fake cursor even. Stuck in the right hand corner. But if I press the Microsoft key I can get my program listing but the cursor won't work so I have to tab through things. So I just shut it down.... this all started to happen because I was trying to blitz the admin password in my BIOs. I removed the CMOS battery. I know that has nothing to do with my other problem but if anyone has any way to help me please let me know.....

I would pull the drive to safely copy out the users files in case they forgot.

Then we'd restore it to factory condition as these infections are getting worse. That is, even if I use the usual scanners I'm never quite sure. After it's working aging the users files are put back on and we talk about how they think it got infected. Torrents are a high percentage here. About half the time.
