Faint printing Samsung ML 2525W

After reading good reviews I bought the Samsung ML2425W mono laser printer. My number one priority is the quality of the text. All the reviews say without exception that the text is good with a nine out ten score everytime. The problem I have found is when I print the text is faint/thin. It's not as bold or dark as my inkjet printer. I've checked the various settings but so far I've drawn a blank. Any advice as to correcting problem will be very welcome.
System Win XP SP3 2GB RAM CPU 2.4 120GB HDD. HP inkjet 8450.
