Failure to install downloaded programmes

Apr 24, 2015 12:10AM PDT

I am having a persistent problem of not being able to install downloaded programmes such as an HP printer driver, Skype for desktop, zip openers etc.

These downloads reach almost completion fairly quickly but remain at a few seconds more or even 0 bytes for several minutes before appearing complete. Windows at first prevents installation but after selecting run anyway error messages appear, e.g. this app can't run, installer integrity failed, check with manufacturer.

I have original recovery and application support discs but don't know if these can help and would appreciate any advice on curing this problem.

Failure to install downloaded programmes
May 3, 2015 5:55PM PDT

I used ninite to group download Skype + AVG + Peazip + Paint.net + Classic Start and these all resulted in hash check failure - 2062. I then tried to download each one separately with the same result.

Ninite suggested the problem could be caused by firewall or security programme software. On my computer I have pre-installed Kapersky Internet Security, McAfee Security Scan trial from Adobe, and self installed Ad-aware and Malwarebytes. I disabled Ad-aware without any difference but could not do so to the others.

On trying to install downloads from the manufacturers' sites I have been told that an HP driver was an unrecognised app, and the package could not be opened, Apple Quicktime has no valid signature and for a McAFee update my computer was not connected to the internet.

Any advice on how to overcome this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Failure installing

It doesn't seem a failure to install a downloaded program, it seems more like a failure to correctly download the installer to your hard disk.

Always make this a 3-step thing: (1) save the installer to the download folder of your hard disk (don't run from the web!), (2) run the installer from that download folder, (3) when succesfull, copy it to the installer to some safe place (for a possible rerun later) from where it's included on your regular backup also.

If step 1 fails, just do it on another PC and copy the installer to a USB-stick to run it on your own PC.

To me what you wrote here would be trouble.

You're mixed Kap and McAfee so they could tangle and cause issues. Good luck untangling this.
