Answer
Good a guess as any.

You have your reasons to suspect that but didn't share any detail or backstory. Since 99.99% of these have the GPU soldered to the main board you can try a new board.

Answer
Is it powered from AC adapter or battery only?

Is the battery dead? Sometimes a battery is dead, but the person depends on the AC adapter to run the laptop anyway, and then the adapter dies too.
