Question

facetime won't ring - sleep bug?

Apr 25, 2012 2:41AM PDT

I've had my Ipad 2 for a while but within the last 2 months have noticed a problem. When receiving calls on facetime it won't ring. It seems to happen when my ipad has been asleep (smart cover closed). I've missed multiple calls.

I've done searches online, and apparently others have the same problem. Any idea how to fix this?

facetime won't ring - sleep bug

I tried that, but it didn't help. Any other ideas? I'm confused as to why it used to work fine and now I have this problem.

As there are too many other discussions.

I picked one with the most common work arounds. Looks like you get to talk to apple too.

It seems that this is a big problem with the Ipad. I've actually read the work around you gave me and there was another one that said the exact opposite... to take it out of mute.

Was trying to avoid calling Apple because from what I've read they aren't helping with this problem. So not even sure if it's worth trying. I'm really upset though that I'm missing calls. I really rely on this for talking to certain family members.

To me it makes sense it would not ring.

But then I would be revealing what I know about folks demands for long battery times. To reach this low power state, WiFi and the CPU may be off. That's that 2 minute time you are reading about.

Sorry but I don't consider this a bug but a poor explanation from Apple about how things work, the tradeoffs of feature for longer battery times.

Consumers however are not interested in such a discussion and may flame anyone that would discuss it.

I'm not sure what you're saying here.. Does my facetime problem have something to do with battery life? I'm confused... sorry...

They are connected.

If Apple did leave the WiFi on and the CPU running there is little chance it could run for as long as it does.

My point here is that Apple could do better explaining how things work. I'm not that good but do have an electronics design background so things don't seem mysterious.

I do agree that apple could do better explaining things.

I'm pretty sure I have wifi always on because the battery on mine goes down pretty fast.

I'm baffled as to why for the first few months I had my ipad facetime would ring perfectly... now it's sporadic. Very odd.

There's more.

If this was some other machine I'd suggest uninstalling all the apps we can. But here I have an iPad so unless there are more clues, I'm going to say talk to Apple.

At least it's not as bad as it is on WP.

Try toggling the mute button on the side of the iPad, next to the volume button. I had the same problem.

I had this problem too for 2 weeks or so... I somehow managed to fix this, but I really don't know how...
