"There's a message many Native Americans have been getting from Facebook because their accounts were reported for having a fake name and thus deactivated. The message reads: "It looks like that name violates our name standards." Elk Looks Back's account was suspended until she provided identification, she said, adding she had to send them a photo I.D. and then a copy of her Social Security card. Her account was reactivated 12 hours later when she received a confirmation and brief apology from Facebook via email.

The identity confirmation process can be tedious and also brings up concerns about privacy, said Dana Lone Hill. She is another Native American woman whose account was deactivated when she tried to change her last name to "Lone Elk" to preserve her father's last name and Lakota identity, Lone Hill told ABC News. "

I have a "fake" account, if there is such a thing in truth. They don't have a right to know everything about me, especially not a right to images nor SS#. It's handy for viewing pages without really being a part of facebook, and to post in other forums without needing to sign up at each one. If they keep this up, eventually they will go the way of MySpace and be abandoned by most .
