Facebook crashes when loading:

As of about 8 pm pst 06 Sept 2010 I have been unable to access facebook on either of our Toshiba laptops thru IE or Google chrome. We have different windows operating systems on both computers. The only thing in common is that we use AVAST on both. Has there been an update in security that would prevent loading of facebook? I can access profile and feed by adding https:// before logging in, but otherwise cannot navigate to other applications, etc.
Might also be a router glitch I am told? There are NO PROBLEMS loading or using any other websites that we have noticed. Only Facebook and related pages we attempt to navigate to from facebook. We get the never-ending spinning circle trying to load. With the https:// at the beginning of profile and feed pages, I can at least load page and comment on posts, but cannot navigate away from either page without crashing. Not enough skill to figure out how to handle this.
