ez trust antivirus

Dec 26, 2005 2:13AM PST

I installed and ran the test 3 times and it seemed to be scanning and finding nothing but when I looked in the "veiw log" I find that every scan failed.Should I uninstall this and try to find another antivirus?

If you want a second opinion

of whether your ez program is working, you can try AVG7 Free edition or Avast, a lot of people on this forum seem to like them. I have AVG7, works good for me. You can get them at the following site: http://www.download.com/sort/3150-2239_4-0-1-6.html?
But be sure you only have ''one'' active program as two might confict.
Only a suggestion

Protection Overload - when does "too much" cause "conflicts"
Dec 26, 2005 11:54PM PST

Eddie;

You bring up an interesting point that has always concerned me re: having toooo much protection running on my pc at the same time. Since I am a neophyte at this, I will defer to you folks.

I use Windows XPHome. I am running AVG, Lavasoft Ad-Aware, , and ZoneAlarm (all of these are free versions) I also have Stopzilla (purchased). Of course, I'm sure SP2's firewall is running as well.

My ISP holds most of the junk mail that tries to get into my inbox in a message log for me to peruse and remove.

To date, these programs seem to get along fairly well, but who am I to know for sure?

Advice?? Thanks much..

Swenson, None Of Those Are Problems, Except...

..you need to make sure that ZoneAlarm and the Windows XP firewall are NOT running at the same time..Usually ZA will actually turn off the Windows firewall but verify that by opening the Control Panel, double click on the "Windows Firewall" icon, then select "OFF", the choose OK..

Although AVG and ZoneAlarm are designed to be running contstantly in the backgroun, Ad-Aware does not unless you have the "paid for" version which provides the "Ad-Watch" program..It's basically a "stand alone" spyware remover and doesn't provide "real time" protection unless the extra protection is purchased. One firewall, one antivirus and one "real time" spyware tool should be fine, but even then, it's important to monitor them to make sure conflicts aren't occurring.

There are a number of other spyware removal tools which can be used in much the same way...As long as you don't have them running in the background for "real time" protection, there should be no conflicts. Currently, I have one antivirus (McAfee), one Firewall (ZoneAlarm) and about 5 different spyware removers which are set to run as "on demand" scans only..Just when I ask them to..No conflicts here.

Hope this helps.

PC protection - real time & fighting protection programs

Grif;

Your reply makes me feel much better. I am doing exactly as you suggested. AVG, ZA, & Stopzilla are running. (is this what you mean by ''real time''?)

I run Ad-Aware on regular basis and XP firewall is disabled.

One more ? You mentioned that it's important to monitor for possible conflicts. How will I know if these programs are fighting each other?

Ummm.

The log might show what file or files the scan failed on.

Care to share.

If it's the swap file (.swp) that's normal.

ez trust failed

I tried to copy the log to word but it will not copy. It shows that it scanned my computer but that every test failed. It appears to work/ what is swap files and would they be on a scanner log? How can I get a copy to you?

Use the log viewer to display the log.

Hi-light the text you want to copy.

Hit ctrl-c.

Position the curser into the message body area of you post.

Hit ctrl-v.

The log should now appear in your post.

I would suggest

there are many viruses/trojans that will actually turn off your antivirus program or disable it to where you think it's still running when it's not. I would go to http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/products/housecall_launch.php

and run the free pc scan to see what turns up since that antivirus program being live and on-line won't be affected. Let it remove what it finds and once you reboot try reinstalling ETrust (you might have to uninstall first and then reinstall clean rather than just install over the top of itself), and then update it again before running another scan. Then check the log again to see if the failures have stopped.
