EZ Firewall X Zone Alarm - which one?

Dec 12, 2004 1:23AM PST

I have a Toshiba A60 166 laptop (P4, 512MB, 30HD, WinXP pro) that came with the EZ Firewall. I have been using it for the past 3 months and I am comfortable with the way it works, it neither prevents me from doing what I want nor requires me to do any complicated software adaptations or verifications (which would put me at loss). The trial version is about to expire and I don't know whether to buy the $ 29 EZ version or to just download Zone Alarm for free. I am afraid Zone Alarm might bring in any bugs or anything that might interfere with the regular use of my PC. I am a low profile user (no games or fancy downloads) and work on 128 kps broadband.
Supposing I give Zone Alarm a try, would it be easy to remove it through program removal if I don't adapt to it (without leaving traces of it)?
Could anyone help on that choice?

Danisb,
I have used Zone Alarm Free for a long time, and have been very happy with it. It is very easy to set up and use, I would suggest giving it a try.

Pay for the EZ firewall since you're used to it and everything is in place, probably will be best only because of that, excluding the cost of course. You're happy, continue to be. Happy

However, IMHO I've used the free firewall from ZA with no hassles other than the initial acknowledgement of pgm. access during first use just when like you started with EZ firewall, nothing new you have to deny/allow certain pgms. access for www. Being free its a darn good pgm. and does just as well as any commerical offering. The only cavet, I've found is numerous upgrades to help address new threats out there and you need to reload the pgm. as an upgrade, but very minor overall. AND yes if you don't like it, it does unload itself completely. I hope this helps...

good luck Grin -----Willy

Danisb, I un-installed Zone Alarm earlier this Summer and had to use "HiJack This" and "Easy Cleaner" to ferret out all the left over Zone Lab junk!
