External Speakers to Improve TV Sound

Apr 19, 2016 7:58AM PDT

Hi All

I have a Samsung UE40JU7000 smart TV and I would like to improve the sound. I'm not interested in big 5 speaker surround systems with subwoofer units, and sound bars/plates wont fit with my set up.

What I ideally want is a pair of good old-fashioned stereo active bookshelf speakers, preferably where the TV sound is transmitted to them wirelessly.

Does anyone know of any reasonably priced solutions of that ilk?

A better-than-nothing second choice would be some kind of single bluetooth speaker with a reasonable power output, however according to the manual in the section "Listening to TV sound through a Samsung Bluetooth audio device" it says "This function is only available for Samsung audio devices that support TV SoundConnect". Is that really true or can you use any bluetooth speaker? (I don't want to spend money on one to find out it doesn't work).

Thanks

I didn't see if this one has a wireless audio system.

Also, I don't see the full model number. There are trailing alphabet letters after the model you gave.

Look up the manual or ask Samsung or the seller if the volume is controlled if you connect to the headphone jack or other. Since I have an incomplete model, my answer is incomplete (sorry about that.)

As to your Soundconnect, yes, Samsung does have models that only connect to Samsung speaker systems. The reasons are that volume control over Bluetooth was proprietary. So Samsung tried to fill a void here.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The model number has a T at the end.

Now I forgot I had a pair of cheap non-Samsung Bluetooth headphones so I tried them out and they pair with the tv and sound comes out ok so presumably any Bluetooth speaker will work too. Using the TVs remote to change volume doesn't work though - maybe that's something Samsung sound connect provides?

I'd still prefer a couple of stereo speakers though.

You did the needed test.

Since headphones work then bog standard bluetooth speakers will work but as we know, volume control from the TV has yet to be implemented. Look at almost all setups and you see this over and over.

My preferred setup is something to the headphone jacks and the TV supports it, volume control may work great.

http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/televisions/uhd-tvs/UE40JU7000TXXU is the model I'm checking out (notice the extra letters.)

It appears that volume control may not be possible (Samsung is again unclear here as they have been with many models) but my bet is you need another remote for your speaker volume control if you get something other than Samsung's own.

"When Speaker Select is set so that sound comes from external speakers only, Volume and Mute buttons and
some Sound functions are disabled."
