Question

External Speaker Sound Control

Feb 24, 2016 6:02AM PST

I have a Samsung UN55J6300 connected to external computer speakers. However, I cannot control the volume with the TV's remote.

On previous Samsung TV's I have owned I have been able to simply plug in the external speakers (the same ones I am using now) via the "headphone" jack, set the external speakers to about half volume, then simply control the volume with the TV remote to make it louder or softer from there.

On this new TV, I cannot do that. If I plug in the speakers, they work, but adjusting the volume with the TV remote only changes the internal TV speakers volume. If I go into the settings and disable the TV speakers and/or select external speakers, then the volume no longer works and I have to manually adjust the volume on the external computer speakers.

Is there any solution to this, where I can control the volume solely via the TV remote like my previous Samsung TV's? Or, do the newer models not allow for this anymore?

Is it this model?

Try to supply full model numbers. I'll read the manual after it downloads.

The manual so far does not tell me the audio jack has volume control. For example:
"To adjust the connected audio device’s volume, you must use the
Sound Share function or connect the audio source to the TV’s HDMI (ARC) port."

Next:
"When Speaker List is set so that sound comes from external speakers only, the Volume and Mute buttons
and some Sound functions are disabled."

The manual is not clear about the Bluetooth audio but try that as it does not state but alludes it might have a volume control. No where does it show how to turn on volume control to the mini jack.

If you are connecting external speakers the only way to have volume control would be if you have them connected via ARC or Bluetooth. If the external speakers come with a receiver, you may be able to set up the universal remote with the receiver. However the speakers would need to be self amplified.
