External Sound Card Help

Oct 23, 2005 2:55PM PDT

So i have a 5.1 surround sound speaker system, but i can't hook it up to the laptop. So i'm wondering if the external sound card will help that?

Also, i'm getting a cradle for my mp3 player. The cradle has a line-out plug for speakers, so i was wondering if i could hook my cradle up soley to my speakers through the external sound card or something else?

can anyone help me? haha

thx

given that we have no idea what laptop you have.
It is possible to use an external sound card, Creative makes one, but it depends on what laptop you have.
What MP3 player is this? Why are we having to guess what you have?
You would have to read the instructions on the sound card to answer your MP3 question.
You may be able to just plug the speakers, powered of course, into the cradle and listen that way

More info required for a more detailed answer

Maybe you should be asking this question in the PC side of CNET. This is a Mac forum.
Note that you did get an answer though

External Sound Card

There are several companies making them, including at least one that I remember with a 5.1 and another with a 7.1 output. They require either a USB or FireWire connection.

I suggest to go to a good music website (like Musicians Friend http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/content/g=home/index.html?) and rummage around there.

Have fun!
