Question

External Monitor to docked laptop

Nov 20, 2014 12:05AM PST

I have an HP Elite laptop that I dock so I can work on a large LCD monitor. Recently the external monitor has become like a watercolor painting with colors running, dots of all colors...

It happens sporadically. I do not know if it is the monitor, the dock or the connection between any of them. The laptop is fine. And when there is no signal, the printing on the external monitor (no signal) is fine. I never know when it will be bad. Help!!

I noticed the battery on the laptop was loose one day but do not know if that is part of the issue. I don't want to buy a new monitor unless I must, of course. Thanks.

Answer
The usual

Is to swap displays, docks and laptops till you find where the problem is. In the meantime I'd execute my routine planned cleaning early. Get out the canned air and do the usual ahead of schedule.

I ordered a monitor to test the set up. I will return it if the same thing happens to it. If it does, then I know it is the dock...the laptop is fine. thank much.
