I forgot to mention that it is Windows 7 I am using and once the problem occurs, the only pickable resolutions in the Right-click-on-desktop -> 'Screen resolution' window are the laptop's resolutions, i.e. 1440x900 is the highest, 1680x1050 is not on the list. However if I go to catalyst control center, I can find it in the list (If I uncheck EDID) but after selecting it and trying to apply the changes nothing will happen.
Im operating a 2,5 year old asus f8va 14" notebook, and Ive had it plugged to an external 22" Samsung 223BW ever since. I have experienced very few problems with that kind of setup (and the problems that came up i did manage to solve) however since last friday im buggered with something I cannot find any explanation for. Namely, when I was busy doing wathever (I believe playing a game when it happened first) suddenly the monitor turned black and once it came back to its senses the resolution was busted. The native for that monitor is 1650x1050 whereas what I saw was the laptop's native which is 1440x900. At first i rebooted and all was good again, for some time. It happened again so I rebooted again but the problem never went away so started employing whatever methods came to my mind. Got rid of Ati drivers and installed basic windows drivers (it might be important to mention that during this reinstallation, without restarting, the resolution became good for some time, but then the same thing happened), that didnt help so I got the Ati back on board. Next dled samsung monitor drivers but that didnt help either. I tried disconnecting the screen for a while and then plugging it back it which didnt help either. Then I went through all the software I have which could be suspected of screwing with the gpu drivers so thats how Aqua snap was sent away(just after uninstallation the res came back to good but then after some time the same thing happened) but still not good. The last thing I could think of was restoring the system from before it started happening which, as you already suspect, did not help either so here I am asking for your help. Anyone any ideas ?
Oh and my gpu is Ati Hd 3650.
