External hard drive won't power up!

May 27, 2006 10:30AM PDT

I purchased a Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 120 gig hard drive about a year ago, and was using it as an external drive for a while. One day it just wouldnt power up anymore, and I'm confused as to what happened. I've changed the hard drive case twice now, and i keep getting the same results. The power source when plugged into the wall seems to be on an working properly, but when I plug it into the hard drive enclosure itself, the light on the power source blinks very rapidly, and the hard drive does not appear to turn on. Has the hard drive died, or is there a way to fix this problem? PLEASE HELP!!

I might try the hard drive.....

in a working machine as a second drive. This may eliminate or point to the enclosure as the source of the problem.

How would I try it out on another computer? Is there a way to plug it directly into my laptop, or another way to check and see if its working?

a laptop?''

No I would use a desktop or tower to test it out. Adding it as a second drive, you may be able access it. If not you can still run diagnostics and repair utilities downloaded from the hard drive makers website.
