External Hard Drive with Straight-to-TV play?

Nov 30, 2006 12:20AM PST

I was looking through external hard drives and found the INOi HD370 300GB. It boasted the ability to play stored video files on a TV directly from the hard drive. Since there was a lack of reviews for this product, I was just wondering whether any of you have ever used it, and how it was. What are the limitations for playback? Specific media file formats, etc... Also, are there other brands with models sporting this feature? Thanks.

I own the Dlink media center product and this is what you discover. A total lack of detail about the media file formats.

And yes there are other products but this is a world wide forum. I can't tell if you can buy what's offered at geeks.com or newegg.com but I can repeat you will be upset that no one will reveal exactly what video formats must go into these devices.

Hope this clears that up for you.

Actually, I was looking for a player that played Matroska files. Also, I live in Canada and am having a hard time finding stores that sell any product like this. Futureshop does have a DVD/media player, but the hard drive space is limited. Anyways, thanks for replying!

Some P2P downloader fiend I know ran into those. I can assure you won't find that in any "media player".
