external hard drive to dvd

is it fast or slow to burn a dvd using an external hard drive? i was thinking of purchasing the lacie d2 250gb extreme with triple interface (i'll be using usb 2) because of its great reviews. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

Is your DVD burner internal??? Anyway speed will be determinded by the speed of the DVD burner. John
