External Hard Drive Problem

Mar 6, 2005 8:55AM PST

I purchased an external hard drive enclosure and installed a drive from an older machine to get the data from it. The hard drive contains only data, no operating system. It was the slave hard drive. My current machine running XP sp2 can see the drive but when I try to access any of the folders I get the following error message "J:\Folder Name is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect" I have tried with the hard drive in Cable Select, Master, and Slave. Has anyone encountered this error message and is there a way to still access the data on the drive?

Bob, thanks for the quick reply. I tried both suggestions. Taking ownership did not solve the problem. I ran Norton, which reported that the folders/files were not recoverable. Unless anyone can come up with another suggestion, I'll probably reformat the drive and start from scratch.

Is never assured. Did Symantec note this issue?

You may have set up your antivirus system to scan all drives and removable media for viruses and other malware. This can interfere with some devices.
