External Hard Drive problem?

by lzlshintani / March 12, 2008 4:12 PM PDT

I have this 750gn Seagate Hard drive, and sometimes on my home PC it fails to load up.

I tried my hard drive on other PCs and it boots up correctly. I tried the FRONT USB ports on my computer and they work correctly. It only seems to be when I plug the HDD into the back I have problems. I even uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers but I'm still getting the same thing.

I'm starting to think it's my motherboard, but I just want to make sure. Does this sound like it's my hard drive or is it the motherboard?

I just updated my BIOS to latest version. It reads all the time now.

The bios did not fix the problem.

After running some tests here and there, I'm still getting the same problem. I still don't know what's going on. I've tried plugging in my HDD to another PC and it works. I've even tried plugging in a different device (my iPod) into all of the back USB ports and they still work. What's going on?

If it works properly with the front USB, then...

the harddrive is good, which means the connection is just not making good contact for some reason. Sorry, don't know what else to tell you.
