Question

external hard drive not working

Jul 4, 2011 12:01AM PDT

HI, i've got a Buffalo HD-Ceu2 250GB up until recently it was working fine but now i cant access it on my computer i've also tried it on another computer with the same result.
Drive shows in my computer but when i click it keeps telling me that drive needs to be reformatted. i decided to cut my losses and try to reformat it but my computer wont allow me to do that.
i've tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers with no luck
i've checked device manager and its telling me drive is working properly

Answer
Sounds like some partition damage.

I bet you'll be removing, recreating partitions. Formatting doesn't do that.

And about the tools for other things like recovery and fixing. Those are in the top posts of this forum.

Sorry.

I can't tell what you want to do now. If the disk space was 100% free you could have created a partition and formatted that (the tutorials showed how.)

But your reply didn't ask a question or write what stopped you.

Please tell what the goals are.

well what was stopping me was that there was still 200gb of media showing on it when i hooked it to my xbox 360. wasn't sure why my computer wasn't recognising this?

Sounds proper.

If you opt for the format instead of the quick format it takes hours. Nothing busted. Drives are now huge and the USB is slow.
