Let's start simple. Does it show up in your old PC?

And where exactly IS "my devices"? And where IN "my devices". And what exactly is "my computer"? Isn't "my devices" running on "my computer"?

Assuming your new PC came with Windows 7 run Disk Management and tell us exactly what it says about this disk. Same for the old PC where it does show up.

Classic symptom of no or not recognized partition

In reply to: external hard drive not opening in new pc

You didn't mention your OS. That would be helpful but let's go with XP or higher. If it shows in device manager, check for it under disk management. If it's there, I could suspect it shows as unpartitioned space. It won't show up in "My Computer" unless it has a drive letter assigned by Windows. It gets that through the partitioning and formatting process. Check under disk management and tell what you see.

Re: external disk

In reply to: external hard drive not opening in new pc

If it can't be initialized you can try initializing or accessing on another PC. If that doesn't work, something is wrong with it. If it's a new one, go back to the show and claim warranty. If it's an old one, try it in another enclosure or as an internal disk.
