External Hard Drive not accessible

Mar 20, 2005 6:00AM PST

I had a Maxtor 5000LE external hd connected to my laptop running Windows 2000. I need to move the HD to my desktop running XP Home SP2. I hooked it up direct to a USB port and it is listed in device manager/disk drives, but under my computer, it is not listed.

I have worked on this for two days and can't find the solution. I really need to access it and am lost on what to do.

Thanks.

Nancy

I'd rather you use the prior discussion, but in a nutshell.

1. USB 2.0
2. Motherboard drivers must be current.
3. Windows 2000 SP4 please.
4. Use TWEAKUI for WIndows 2000 and make sure no drive letters are hidden.
5. If you are running Symantec's NAV, there is an issue with it scanning removable media. I have no cure but to disable that scan.

Confused
Mar 20, 2005 7:50AM PST

Thanks for your response, I did a search and couldn't find exactly the same problem as I was having. I have Windows XP on the computer that I need to add the drive to. I am not running Symantec.

The drive is listed under device manager/disk drives; it is plugged in directly to the computer, not a hub; I can't find it when I click on my computer; it isn't listed in computer management/diskmanagement.

I am just at a loss on what to do. I have another computer running Windows 2000, but I need it on my XP computer.

Thanks for your help.

That symptom is consistent with..

A drive on USB 1 ports or a hidden drive letter.

Until you supply what is asked for in the Forum Tip, not much else will happen.
