It appears that some machines use the HDMI to tell the PC to sleep when the display is off. I suggest you post in the CNET Windows 8 forum and hope someone knows the settings to look at.
Windows 8 is not a "server" OS so there are limits. This being the first you will encounter.

Hi.
Recently got a new desktop (Win
and was excited to hook it up to plasma tv. Folders on external WD drive are not available when the tv is off, though! When the tv is on, the folders are accessible on the network but I get an error that basically says I don't have permission/the drive isn't ready when the tv is off. I have made/shared folders on the C drive and they work fine when the tv is off so it is the external drives that are the problem (it happens with both a WD Elements and a WD My Book)Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?
